  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Servings: 12-15
  • Ingredients:
  • Khoya (Mawa): 1 cup (about 150g)
  • All-Purpose Flour (Maida): 2 tablespoons (about 15g)
  • Baking Powder: 1/4 teaspoon (about 1g)
  • Milk: As required (about 30ml)
  • Sugar: 2 cups (about 400g)
  • Water: 1.5 cups (about 360ml)
  • Cardamom Powder: 1/4 teaspoon (about 1g)
  • Ghee or Oil: For frying (about 100ml absorbed)
  • Instructions:
  • Prepare the Sugar Syrup:
    • In a pan, combine 2 cups of sugar and 1.5 cups of water.
    • Heat over medium heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
    • Add the cardamom powder to the syrup.
    • Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
    • Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.
  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Grate the khoya and place it in a mixing bowl.
    • Add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder to the khoya.
    • Mix well. Gradually add milk, a little at a time, until a smooth, soft dough forms.
  • Shape the Gulab Jamun:
    • Divide the dough into small, smooth balls (about the size of a marble). Ensure there are no cracks on the surface.
  • Fry the Gulab Jamun:
    • Heat ghee or oil in a deep frying pan over low to medium heat.
    • Gently slide the balls into the hot oil. Fry in batches, without overcrowding the pan.
    • Fry until the balls turn golden brown and are evenly cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Soak the Gulab Jamun:
    • Remove the fried Gulab Jamuns from the oil using a slotted spoon.
    • Immediately place them in the warm sugar syrup. Allow them to soak for at least 1-2 hours.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the Gulab Jamun warm or at room temperature. Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.
  • Flavor-Boosting Tips:
  • Saffron Infusion: Add a few saffron strands to the sugar syrup for a luxurious flavor.
  • Rose Water: A few drops of rose water in the syrup can enhance the fragrance.
  • Nuts: Top with finely chopped pistachios or almonds for added texture and flavor.
  • Enjoy your homemade Gulab Jamun, a classic and indulgent treat!
